Need help with lodging and/or car rental in Geneva that won't break the bankCountry forums / Western Europe / Switzerland
My husband and I are travelling to Switzerland on Monday to visit his niece in Verbier. We're flying into Geneva and hoping to get a reasonably priced hotel near the airport since we're arriving in the evening but can't find anything remotely affordable. Is there such a thing?? Alternatively, we're thinking of renting a car and driving there but car rentals in Switzerland are also through the roof. We realise we can take the train and may be forced to do so as a last option but hoping someone on this forum may have some suggestions to help in the meantime. Thankx!
It depends on how you define 'affordable'. but yes, Switzerland is generally expensive. | 1
I appreciate your response but was really looking for help in how and where to find a place or car. We are looking for a room that costs less than 150 Euros a night. | 2
Booking.com says that Geneve is 84% sold out for Monday, and you can bet the budget options are even more full--"budget" being relative in Geneva. In fact, booking.com isn't showing anything near the airport for less than 300 euro a night. My guess is if you expand your search to Geneva proper, you may find something less pricey. But my computer is suffering from Crazy Mouse Syndrome at the moment so I can't look it up for you. You may have waited too long and may have to settle for what you can get, regardless of proximity to the airport. | 3
Hi! I had the same problem booking for a weekend in May, Geneva is extremely expensive! :-( but there are many, have a look ;-) (you can choose between just the room, with shared bathroom and shared kitchen, or the whole place) | 4

For a much more reasonable car rental, be sure to check the prices on the French side of the airport. Enter GGV rather than GVA in the rental search and marvel at the difference! Prices for my July 2013 car rental were half the cost on the French side of the airport than on the Swiss side. | 6
