Madrid - Route to attractions. Madrid districts and shopping

Country forums / Western Europe / Spain

I will be in Madrid for 3 nights in 2 weeks week, I am on a tight budget.I have a few questions to check with you, one which wasn't answered in a previous forum.
1)The below are the attarctions I want to see. Are these all withing walking distance of the other? My hostel is at Plaza de Celenque. 3-5, Madrid.
2) Are there cheap authentic food places close to these attractions or the Hostel which I can try good local food? Can you name a few please? For savouries and sweets.
3)My next question is about shopping. I would like to spend one day doing some shopping for summer/everyday wear clothes and things. I am not looking for branded clothes. Just a few affordable pieces (about 8 euros a piece maybe). I am not looking for second hand clothes either. Could you suggest one place or area I can go to? I will not have time to travel very far from the neighbourhood I am in to go look for shopping places.

Below are the attractions I've picked (I will .pick about 5 of these to see, depending on the time).

Paseo del Prado
Plaza de la Villa.
Plaza Mayor. Main square .
Puerta del Sol.
Prado Museum (Museo Nacional del Prado)
Visit the Royal Palace and Plaza de Oriente.
El Reitro park
The cathedral of Madrid
Reina Sofia Museum
Templo de Debod.

You need a guidebook that should answer most of these questions...

Lonely Planet have a city guide available - see shop page at the top of your screen.

Or use google maps as I do in such a case...

I was in Madrid last weekend. I'll reply to 2 + 3.
2) There are just so many bars and restaurants in Madrid that it's pretty difficult to name anything specific. However: order a beer and you get tapas with it (olives, bread and ham or similar). I found I didn't need to buy any food at all!
3) If you're there on a Sunday go to the el rastro market for shopping. I could have spent thousands there! Excellent selection of cool and inexpensive clothing with a focus on stuff from India etc. Highly recommended!
