Luggage on IDTGV trains -- Need some clarity please

-- Hi , am planning to travel on an IDTGV train and it appears that there is some restriction on luggage to be carried.

I have a large suitcase ie 75 cm long . Will I be allowed to carry this on the train ? Any extra charges ? How much? Thanks

What restriction have you seen?

As far as I have ever seen, and I often travel on IdTGV, the only restriction is that you have to be able to carry it yourself and that it has to be labelled with your name. If you can't get it into the overhead racks, there are some spaces for big cases at the entrance to the wagons.

do you think there are secret restrictions that wouldn't be mentioned on the idtgv homepage?

From what I can make out , the 2 pieces of free luggage can only be 50cm x 50cm x 50cm . While there is a hefty charge for additional luggage , the size is not mentioned .

but surely that should answer your question? I'd say you'll be fine, but verbatim one could argue you'd need to pay the surcharge. if you want to be sure, contact them.

btw, my understanding would be that the luggage dimensions mustn't add up to more than 150cm (or indeed an 1/8 m³?), otherwise even a standard sized carry-on wouldn't qualify whereas a surfboard would - surely that cannot have been the intention.

Anyone traveling on an idTGV train with a suitcase that large is courting disaster, whether you have to pay extra for it or not. Why on earth would you need that kind of luggage? Trains in France move quickly, stop quickly, expect you to get on and off quickly, and then take off quickly. Your fellow passengers expect you to be able to move yourself expeditiously through the cars and on and off them. Can't you cut back on the baggage?
