Kefalonia transport /weather

Country forums / Western Europe / Greece

Good morning Thorn tree
I have a flight booked to Kefalonia on Sunday 30/9, I arrive from the UK at 11.35am. I have an apartment booked in a small village/resort on the south west coast - KATELIOS VILLAGE. Is public transport available at this time of year from the airport to Katelios? If not what about taxi's? Any ideas on costs / companies / recomendations? How is the weather over in Kefalonia at this time of year. I have read that it should be between 23 - 25? Is the sea warm enough to swim in? Are jumpers and cardis needed at night? Has anyone been to Ketelios? Would you go again?? Any info on Kefalonia, places of interest, getting about, gladly received. Thanks in anticipation, Annie X

You will not be able to reach Katelios by public transport. On weekdays you could take a taxi to Argostoli (there is no airport bus), and catch the 14.00 bus to Katelios, but there is no service on Sundays. There is a company called Resorthoppa.com who quote £60 (!!!) for a private transfer, but I am sure a taxi would take you for considerably less than this . The distance is around 30km. You will then,of course have to think about getting back to the airport on your return. By far the best option is to rent a car if you are able to do this, arranging pickup and return at the airport. It would cost less than £100 (travelsupermarket.com) if you book online, and would be very useful, given the somewhat isolated position of Katelios. I stayed there for a week a few years ago and liked it very much. It is a small and very quiet village with a nice little beach and a few tavernas. Skala is quite near if you want a bit more action. There is plenty to see and do on Kefalonia, caves, boat trips to Ithaca, and bus trips around the island. The weather will be mid-twenties during the day and cool in the evenings (Yes, take a cardie!) You can find a ten-day forecast at Yahoo Weather (looks quite good). Sea temperature will be great for swimming. I am sure you will love Kefalonia, it is one of my favourite Greek islands. Enjoy !!!

Many thanks Rummieboy, the bus is out, so its either car hire or a taxi. I'll look into that. Has anyone made this journey by taxi of late who can tell me the cost of picking a taxi up at the airport? Cardi is packed! Yamas, Annie ((_))
