intership in Amsterdam

Hi!
I have now been surfing for quite a long, to find large ( non-banking or insurance) companies based in Amsterdam or very near by ( no more than 30/40 km)
The official economics institutions don't help me at all, either they don't answer or ask for money first for data ( in which nobody knows what it is about) and obviously expensive as it is made for companies.

everyone knows those: Canon, Nike, corporate offices or Heineken

but could you provide me some others important or big middle range companies based in Amsterdam.

please: note that I do speak English, German, French, Spanish and Italian fluently ....but no Dutch. Therefore the franca lingua in the company must not be Dutch. Probably English.

Amsterdam should have a chamber of commerce. Contact them to get a list of companies.

Amsterdam has a chamber of commerce indeed, please swift me € 650 to buy the list as they generously offer to me.
btw, all chamber of commerce in Germany, France etc. don't provide you any information for free, it seems.

When I asked once the chamber of commerce in Munich, Germany, for a girlfriend, who wanted to change from one IT-company to another, I got a list for free.

Yeah, baby, I got mad search skillz (as well as attitude):
1) Google "corporate headquarters amsterdam"
2) Shrug, think "why not?" and pick the 1st result (Wikipedia)
3) Click numbered footnote about corporate headquarters
4) Click through link at footnote
5) Look over page, notice date is 2008
6) Shrug again, type "global 2000 netherlands" in search box
7) Click link for 2011 list

this quite funny because I study in Munich & Nürnberg and both chamber of commerce refuse to provide any information, when i was looking for Bavarian companies ( however to find a company in Bavaria is pretty easy i admit and no one need a list)
please note that the only 2 dynamic chamber of commerce I met, where the Spanish and the Czech one.
The worst being the French & the Romanian still working for Securitate apparently!

nrclibn thanks going to try your procedure, had try wikipedia already with enterprise ranking in Amsterdam but got only the 39 first which were mostly in south NL.

Apatride, unless the EU has very primitive (doubtful!) or unhelpful (maybe?) libraries, large companies should be listed in a reference directory (or several reference directories). The questions are
1) who owns copies of the directory
2) can you visit them to look at the directory and photocopy some pages
3) do they have a service for copying or scanning pages and sending them to you
4) is there something similar and free online.

You could try asking this English-language service from Koninklijke Bibliotheek. Also ask the largest public library, or the national library, in your current location. Let them know you have seen the Forbes list of large companies in the Netherlands. (Include the link so they know exactly what it is.) Also explain what data you want to find that is not on the Forbes list.

Yes the most difficult as I already mentioned is to find the companies only in Amsterdam.

will follow your advises, please note that Forbes didn't hit my expectation as there is no limitation to Amsterdam only, but to all NL.

Any reason why the company has to be based in the vicinity of Amsterdam? There may be less competition for internships for non-Dutch speakers in other areas, outside the Randstad conglomeration.

Many international companies have their corporate head offices in the Schiphol airport area as well, so have a look through the directory for Hoofddorp and Schiphol-Rijk, for example.
Hoofddorp has a train station with regular connections to Amsterdam and Leiden (many office buildings are located within walking distance from the train station), Schiphol-Rijk is an industrial area that can be reached by bus from Schiphol train station in 15-30 minutes (it's a very spread-out area).

Well, the main reasons why I don't want to be far away from Amsterdam is:
1) do not belong a car.
2) my friends will become a company flat in Amsterdam for 6 months.
3) Amsterdam is a great city.

if you have few names of companies' headquarters in Hoofdorf // Leiden Schiphol-Rijk please do not hesitate to drop a line.

Check the companies that are listed in the AEX and AMX the two most important stock listings on the Amsterdam Borse. Visit their website and check for location and jobs.

I was trying to be helpful in asking if you thought your English was good enough to work in Amsterdam. Everyone speaks perfect English there. Saying become instead of get is an elementary error and you've made quite a few of them. You can make a smart reply or you can think about whether you really will be able to cope in Amsterdam.

Sometimes old-fashioned print is the best thing to use. If your friends are in Amsterdam right now, maybe they could help you by taking a little trip to the Openbare Bibliotheek (public library). The central library has (had?):
      The principal companies in the Netherlands = De belangrijkste ondernemingen in Nederland = Les principales entreprises de Pays Bas

It might also be listed as "25.000 important companies in the Netherlands." I'm hoping it has a geographic arrangement, or at least a geographic index, that will reveal companies outside of Amsterdam.

Disclaimer: My Dutch begins and ends at "klompen" (although at this point I'm pretty sure "Niets gevonden" in the library catalog means "not found"), so there are probably other things at the library with similar information.

I'm surprised that nobody's asked this question before: what kind of internship are you looking for anyway? What education does it go with, what skills do you offer / want to (bring into) practice? Bookkeeping, marketing, commerce, IT, some kind of science???

And why don't you surf vacancy databanks such as Monsterboard.nl or others, using search terms such as 'stage' (internship) or 'stagiair' or 'stagiaire' (intern)? Or even search in English since you are looking for an international internship.

And doesn't your school / college provide contact details or vacancy information / have its own database of companies / vacancies?

Yes question is relevant.
Field of intern-ship should be in relation with, marketing,export and international business.
if possible an industrial orientated company with an Amsterdam headquarter..
my college does provide intern-ship, but not for Amsterdam.

Yes! after a selection of companies, reason of this OP.

Monsterboard didn't hit my expectations..

Apatride many US and other international companies such as Cisco and Microsoft have their local or regional/european headquarters based around Schiphol Airport in places like Hoofddorp, Schiphol Rijk, Amstelveen or Amsterdam Zuid Oost you may want to search in that region.
