How to go from Rome Fiumicino airport to CivitavecchiaCountry forums / Western Europe / Italy
Hi, I need to go from Rome Fiumicino airport to Civitavecchia port to catch a cruise. I would like to ask if there is a Trenitalia train station connecting to the airport ? if not, what are my options ? bus, shuttle etc. I think taxi is too expensive for 2 persons. I know how to go from Civitavecchia to Rome Trastevere using Trenitalia train. However, I never went from the airport to Civitavecchia. Once I can get to Civitavecchia, I know my way around. Thank you very much for your help.
There is a half-hourly Regionale service from FIumicino to Trastevere. Check at trenitalia for the exact schedule (use »Fiumicino aeroporto« for departure station). As a - cheap - Regionale train it isn't necessary to make advance reservation. Buy the tickets on arrival. | 1
Do I have to go from the airport to Rome Trastevere station, then from this station to Civitavecchia ? Thank you again. | 2
As far as I can see on Trenitalia (check the link I gave you) all trains from Fiumicino to Civitavecchia involve a change. Depending on the train it's a change at Termini (using the more expensive Leonardo Express and high-speed Frecce) or at Trastevere (with the cheap Regionale). | 3
thank you very much for your help | 4
Just to confirm Ton's advice, no need to go into Termini, in fact it is much easier to change at Trastevere because with luck your train to Civitavecchia will depart from the opposite side of the same platform you arrive from Fiumicino. Just go to the booking office inside the train station at the airport and the staff there will advise you what time the next train goes and issue your tickets. Do make a note to validate the ticket in the green and grey box at the end of the platform before you board tbe train. During the day on weekdays trains from the airport are every 15 minutes, and from Trastevere to Civitavecchia about every half hour. | 5
I agree that Trastevere is a better station for us, since we have luggage and Termini is too big and too confusing. I was at Trastevere station before. I would like to ask you another question : do I need to buy 2 tickets, one ticket to go from the airport to Trastevere and another ticket to go from Trastevere to Civitavecchia ? I have a spare ticket from Trastevere to Civitavecchia that I purchased but did not use. I wonder if I can use it for this trip ? Thank you for your help again. | 6
AFAIK you can buy it as one ticket from the airport to Civitavecchia..both trains are the same type (regionale). Of course you could just buy a regionale to Trastevere from the airport, and then use the ticket you alrady have (if it is unstamped and within date).I think the validity is 2 months from when you purchased the ticket. | 7
My experience of travelling on two regional trains - I do it each time I go from Fiumicino to Orvieto - is that I get two tickets. However, if your ticket from Trastevere is too old as luca said, though I thought it was 6 months but I may be wrong, it is technically out of date and no longer valid, so whether a ticket would notice might be a risk. | 8
Could be....I never buy a regionale ticket that long in advance.I remember 2 months for some reason ;-) | 9
They changed the rules for paper tickets on regionale tickets last year. Now you have to purchase them for the exact date you intend to use them, although you don't have to indicate a time. So nope, no more just buying in advance and tucking away for trips within a two-month period. That's why I'm thinking that even if your regionale ticket was purchased within the 2-month window, it isn't good anymore if it's paper. The best explanation I've seen(in English)is here: | 10
whow! It was a good thing that I've asked about the paper ticket. Thank you for your help everyone and have a good day. | 11
