Hikinig in Austria - smth similar to Jungfrau area in Switzerland

Country forums / Western Europe / Austria

I have been in Jungfrau region in Switzerland, 5 days, daily hikes (Schilthorn, Eiger trail, Faulhorn etc...) - I really liked it. What could be "similar" place in Austria (Italy, French might also be options actually) - 3-5 days, it is possible to stay in one place, you can use public transport to move around, cable lifts to make one way (either up or down) to mountain, walks shouldn't need special training/equipment, but I don't want light and simple paved roads also :)
Any suggestions (late August, early September)?

If you want to go on a mountain, I suggest buying good shoes with deep profile soles. Especially on wet or snowy terrain they could save your life.

Now to your question:

As Austria is a skiing nation, you'll find cable lifts on every second mountain. For me, I like the region in the southern part of Upper Austria best. The mountains are not that high (2,500 meters max.), but they can sometimes be very tricky. The Austrian Alpine Society provides an internet tool where you can find information about the different destinations. You can find the link here.

Although the main page is accessibe in english, the descriptions of most huts are unfortunately in German only. But you can maybe find your way anyhow.
