Help requested 1 week in Spain-URGENT!!

Country forums / Western Europe / Spain

Hi, two friends travelling to Spain - arrival Madrid on January 4 until January 10, please advise where to go, we want to see Alhambra, seville, cordoba. Any tips will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the coolest addiction. Once you backpack in person...you learn how rewarding investment in yourself.

Seville can be a four dayer. Please don't treat this like its your only chance.

Just be sure you talk with folks outside your group.

I live in Seville. Its a common problem. Those chumps tick places off their list but learn zip.

Talk at length with those from other countries. Hanging around your own nationality is isolating, like rent cars.

Europeans have told this Texan expat,"Americans. Nice people and all but whew! They are afraid of everything. But won't listen to the explanation."

Europe is more than old art and super old places.

www.youtube.com/islaamic history in Europe.

1st four chapers are on Spanish city states. Awsome.

Saave your hotel slurge night, for when you can find no other beds in town. HostAl owners may call around for you. Sweet folks in Spain, if you're a nice person.

Pack only three compleat changes of clothes. We don't change everything everyday.

Where are you flying from?

OP, the comment by PhiMeow in #1 illustrates how everyone has a different idea on what is good and what is not, and how it is near impossible to provide an answer to your request for suggested activities, as I found the walk through the woods to the Alhambra main gate was a perfect entree to the Alhambra main course. The bus is for people with mobility issues, otherwise walk it.

Have a look at the destination section of this website, or try the Rough Guide website to get an idea of what to see and where to shop - it is your trip, spend a few hours researching it. Or (God forbid) buy a guide book.

Having said that, booking in advance is the way to go (I certainly did and it saved time and ensured that I had a ticket), but I am not sure how busy the place will be in a weeks time. When we went (July 2006) they had very friendly staff available to walk you through the ticket printing process, even though the on screen instructions were well presented, and it was busy.

Opp's, nearly forgot to mention that having a week to look at Madrid, Seville, Granada and Cordoba is not possible. If you are sales man seeing clients in each destination, then sure you can do it, but if you want to actually SEE the place you need a lot more time. If the Alhambra is a must see for this trip, then stay in Madrid and Granada this time, and look at the others next time (if you travel properly the first time, there will always be a next time)

Any tips will be greatly appreciated.
To follow on from the excellent post by Stav_ros, there is a big difference between a feasible itinerary and an enjoyable one. Yours is just about feasible. Most people I know would not find it enjoyable.

Quoted verbatim from the introduction to this forum:

"Here are some simple tips about looking for information:

  1. Research before asking a question. It will help you get better, more detailed and useful answers from the community if you've already done some homework. It's also polite. The community is here to help, but we're not your personal search engine. Invest some preliminary time and we'll help you fill in the gaps.

  2. Explore Lonely Planet's Destinations online, which has a wealth of key info and tips.

  3. Have a good look around the Thorn Tree before asking your question - quite often your question (or one very similar to it) will have been asked and answered many times already."

Feel free to ask if there's any specific information you're looking for.

While in Sevilla, make sure to check out Alameda. It´s sort of the artistic, bohemian part of town. Great bars and restaurants to eat at and good nightlife. On your way to Alameda, make sure to pass by Plaza de Encarnación. They recently re did the plaza and created these two giant mushrooms. You can go to the top of them and have a drink and get really nice views of the city. There is also a really neat restaurant guide that offers great deals in a good amount of restaurants. It´s called entreRestaurantes (http://www.entreRestaurantes.com). If you're traveling on a budget, its a great resource! Happy and Safe Travels!
