Lonelyplanet.com is doing a special feature on European music festivals and we’re looking for your tips on making sure this summer's festivals are memorable for all the right reasons. We want to hear what you’ve got to say about cool camping, keeping hydrated, safe footwear and the best in bin-bag couture.
And while we would love to hear about the best way to sneak into Glastonbury, keep it legal thanks.

Just to start with the rock festival closest to Paris, at the end of August is Rock en Seine in Saint Cloud. The festival lasts 3 days.
This year's lineup includes Arcade Fire, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Jarvis Cocker, Just Jack, Craig Armstrong, Björk, etc.
The only Celtic music festival in Europe is in Galicia;
Ortigueira
Every July with some big Celtic names.

With Rock in Park and Rock am Ring in Germany...do not get the two things confused! Yes they are twin festivals, but confusion with the location can really screw you... Rock im Park is in Nurnberg in Barvaria and Rock am Ring is in Nurnbergring, a race track kind of near Bonn and we had to go from train to smaller train to bus to taxi to get there. A lot of people seem to think their next to each other. No, not in real life.
Also, Rock im Park is usually held in Zepplinfeld in Nurnberg, you'll notice the large grey structure...yes thats the famous place where Hitler had his rallies, and the same from the footage of the swastika being blown up by American soldiers. I wondered why it looked so familiar first time I went.

For the best little festival in alternative music, check out Haldern-pop in Germany. Haldern-pop. Also a good festival with music from all over the world is Festival Mundial in Tilburg, the Netherlands. Festival Mundial 2007 (Dutch only, sorry)
Of course also the Lowlands festival in the Netherlands is a good festival, as it has a lot to offer besides the music, it also has theatre, films, comedy, and much more. For the other huge festivals check Pinkpop (NL), Rock Wechter (B), Pukkelpop (B), Reading (UK), Roskilde (DK)
Okay, since not much information is being added, I will add Les Eurockéennes in Belfort, in France but near the German and Swiss borders.

The "Tanz und Folkfest" in Rudolstadt, Thüringen is Germany's largest folk, roots and world music festival. The event happens every year during the first full week in July.
