Good Location

We are planning a trip to Portugal for three weeks in October. We are looking for a city or town to stay in for our last day before flying out. After a clockwise circle tour starting from Lisbon we will end up with a last couple of days in Salema. It is to far to drive to make a plane than flys out at 10.30 A.M. What city would you suggest that would be no more than one hour away coming from the south. We are looking for a place that makes for an easy drive to the airport and would also make for a pleasant last day and evening.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I assume that you are talking about Faro airport. If you do not want to stay in Faro how about Loule or Olhao? Have you considered going to Seville and flying from there? A bus takes 5-6hrs from Lagos

Thanks for the advice,but I guess I wasn't very clear. We are flying out of Lisbon. I believe the airport is northeast of the city. We have to allow enough time to drop off the car and still have two hours for all the red tape. That is why we were looking for a pleasant city or town to stop for our last afternoon/evening.

Not more than an hour from the airport (and at the same time pleasant for your last day/night) depends which (next, departing) day are we talking of...if you're flying out on a week/work day (STRESS this if it's a monday!) and you don't want to wake up at 6h00/6h30 in the morning then forget about staying anywhere south or Tejo river (bridge...even Vasco da Gama one...could mean traffic jam stress in the morning) or even in Sintra (while having to drive the bottlenecked route by the name of IC19...western «paradise» for road traffic in rush hours). If on the other hand you're flying out on a saturdar or sunday...then, as a logical on-route spot, i'd suggest staying in Sesimbra...and -while reaching there- taking the mountain/coastline route from Setúbal. Algarve > Setúbal is easily achieved along the A2 toll motorway.
