El Camino . Waling from St.Jean Pied de Port to Santiago (september)Country forums / Western Europe / Spain
Hi, As this major challenge is just one part of an extended trip, I am seeking advice and feedback from anyone who has used a pre booked luggage transporter to transfer our large luggage bags to and from our nightly accommodation whilst walking the El Camino. Our accommodation is pre booked. I have received one quote of 500 euros (there are four of us travelling together between September 14th September - 5th Oct.) Any recommendations or questions to ask of listed suppliers of this service, would be most appreciated.
Sorry, no great interest for me, but your queries might be better placed or the answers searched for in devoted camino forums like https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/ | 1
The best tip i ever recieved about traveling, was travel light, and i am never suprised by the amount of baggage folks lug around with them. Do you need these people? | 2
Walked the Camino in 2014 and doing it again in September from SJPDP to Finisterre. Don't recall anyone pre booking luggage transporter on last walk but should be no problem. almost EVERY place you stay will know locals who will transport your bags between hotels/hostels/albergues--going rate in 2014 was about 5 E per person. Some people who were traveling further after Santiago did send their luggage ahead to Santiago and walked with small packs. We met a couple from Mexico who only intended to walk the Camino for a few days and then go on for 6 months of travel in Europe so had their large backpacks with them. They ended up walking the entire route from SJPDP to Santiago with their big packs and never complained. After you walk for a few hundred Kilometers, you will not even notice your pack and might, like I did, add rocks to your pack just to feel some weight. And we saw some people who had 5 or 6 large suitcases that they put on a vehicle each day--would have been easier to send it ahead to Santiago. And you are going to miss a lot of fun if you are not staying in albergues or churches. You can stay in a hotel back home--the albergues are an IMPORTANT part of the whole Camino experience. Traveling light--last trip I carried a liter of water 800 kilometers without opening it! | 3
