Budget Hotels near Champs Elysees and Arch de Triomphe

Country forums / Western Europe / France

My Wife and me are planning to spend four nights exploring Paris between 11th-15th May, 2007. We are looking for budget hotels near Champs Elysees and Arch de Triomphe...as we are informed that this is the most happening place in Paris. Can I request suggestions on hotels in this area in the range of 75 euros / $100 per night. I am looking for a double room with private bath/toilet.

Offhand, I would not call that area a "happening place". It is however an expensive one. Either raise your budget or look in a different area of the city.

"budget hotels" do not belong in the same sentence as "Champs Elysées & Arc de Triomphe", I'm afraid.

2

You have been horribly, disastrously misinformed about where things "happen" in Paris.

Dear Kerouac2...where is the best place to stay in Paris...My wife and me are on our first visit to Europe and are both French-challanged, Our interest is to see all the "Must-See" places in Paris and still have time and energy to soak in the Parisian life style. We also want to be able to enjoy the evenings and late nights, and hence we do not want to stay too far away from the happening places. Any suggestions with specific hotel names will be most welcome.

Thanks in advance

I suspect that EU$75-100 per night will be a two or three star Hotel? I'm not too familiar with which neighborhood is "the most happening place in Paris", but you might consider other areas to stay. If you're close to a Metro stop, it's easy to get to any "happening" place. In the Rue Cler area, you might have a look at the web sites for the Hotel du Champs de Mars or Grand Hotel Leveque.

Cheers!!!

"happening places" in Paris are for me…… hum…… something like place Saint Michel on a friday evening, or place des Vosges on a sunday afternoon or boulevard de Belleville and boulevard de Menilmontant at 20pm…… there are many places like this in Paris, just wandering, open your eyes and smell the spirit of the air !

Good luck

Interesting neighborhoods with a lot of nightlife, restaurants, shops, etc., are places like the Latin Quarter, Saint Germain-des-Prés, the Marais (I am listing in the first three positions the areas that most appeal to North Americans but not at all to myself) -- Europeans tend to prefer the Grands Boulevards, Opéra and Châtelet areas, people with more bohemian tastes like Bastille, Belleville, Oberkampf or Montmartre. The Champs-Elysées is a total tourist trap area, as is Trocadéro.

Middle-of-the-road places include Montparnasse, Gare du Nord-Gare de l'Est, Vaugirard-Convention, and many other places.

There is just about no area in Paris that is inconvenient to the tourist sites -- the metro or bus system can deliever you just about anywhere within 15 minutes.

I do like Le Marais just for wandering (suppose that is my North American side, deprived of much over 300 years old).... though I find it a very expensive place to stay in terms of food shops etc. And I do appreciate the many bookshops in the Latin Quarter, specialised in this or that, though one finds very interesting ones elsewehere. And love le Musée de Cluny, as much for the architecture as what is inside.

But I have more boho Eastend tastes in terms of where to stay, though I know that wouldn't appeal to all.

Here is one for you to consider in the Latin Quarter. Like Kerouac2 says, with the metro you are not far from anywhere in Paris.

I agree with above posters- and it really doesn't matter much where you stay as the meto will take you anywhere in 15 mins
