Algarve region in November

Country forums / Western Europe / Portugal

Hi,

Is it worth detouring to Algarve (Lagos, Faro) for a day or two during the month of November (third weekend)? I'll be traveling from Lisbon to Seville via bus and learn that I will need a stopover in Algarve region along the way. Is it worth staying overnight for a day or two given the average climate conditions (wet and grey)?

Thanks,

Raymond

Not necessary. There are two direct buses a day between Lisbon and Seville without any need to go via the Algarve. One daytime, one overnight.

Dep. Lisboa Oriente: 09.30
Arr. Sevilla: 17.45

Dep. Lisboa Oriente: 20.45
Arr. Sevilla: 05.45 (next day)

I would hope for fairly hot and sunny, even in mid-late November, and expect cold nights. However there are no guarantees against rain anywhere.

thank you tony_b - may i ask which bus company you're referring to?

i tried http://www.eva-bus.com/home.php?lang=PT but do not see a LISOA-SEVILLE option...thanks

ALSA is the one. You may need to enter a return trip starting from Seville to get the bus times back from Lisbon.

Hi!!
Don't think twice and spend some days in this beautiful region of Portugal.
On your way from Lisbon to Seville you can’t miss Tavira!! This historic city deserves a minimum of 2 days. One day to visit the city itself and another to visit the beaches! The beaches near Tavira are beautiful!! Tavira Island is a white sand beach 11km long. You can go by boat or by train (Praia do Barril) and you will have the chance to feel in a real island with no one around, just the sound of the waves and the warm sun!
The seafood and fish are wonderful too. Try one of the small restaurants near the city centre. Usually they are good (with so much fresh fish they have to be good!!) and finish with a nice expresso coffee with a delicious traditional pastry (try the almond ones, a " Don Rodrigo ” or a “Folhado de Tavira”.
To stay in Tavira you have from the budget to the most expensive ones! A good relation price / quality is Monte do Álamo , a beautiful guest house. In November you still can have nice days at the beach. Last year I spent pleasant days at the beach in Tavira at the end of November. It rarely rains (Algarve it the land of the sun!)

Enjoy!
