4 days Swiss trip - April 2012 -suggestions pleaseCountry forums / Western Europe / Switzerland
Dear friends, Thanks a lot first of all for posting some wonderful answers to the posts here and offering some real valuable help. 31-Mar-12 (Saturday) 1-Apr-12 (Sunday) 2-Apr-12 (Monday) 3-Apr-12 (Tuesday) 4-Apr-12 (Wednesday) For travelling, i am planning to go for a 4 day Swiss Pass and for my kid (he would be around 5 years 9 months) on the day of travel, i guess the STS Family card will be good. I understand that Jungfraujoch will just be 25% even with the Swiss pass and Titlis will also be 50% only with the Swiss pass. Do you have any suggestions on which would be good ski areas for the places that we are travelling? We don't need any professional ski schooling classes but just want to have an experience with sking? Also, suggestions on paragliding and rental equipment for sking will be highly appreciated! Look forward to your kind suggestions. Thanks a lot for your time and attention! Regards Gautam
You will arrive at Interlaken at 14.23. If you buy your Swiss Pass (with Family card, if you like) at Geneva railway station, you will probably take a later train. Trains between Geneva and Interlaken run every 30 minutes In winter, there are no boats on Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. The spring season starts April 6th. But you can board a steamboat at Lucerne; Lake Lucerne boats run all the year round. Cuckoo clocks are made in the Black Forest (Germany). But you can buy them in Swiss souvenir shops too, (shopkeepers import them from Germany, because tourists from overseas always ask for them). With the Swiss Pass, adults will have to pay 75 per cent of the fare for the Wengen/Grindelwald - Jungfraujoch leg. Interlaken - Wengen resp Grindelwald is free. With the half fare card, adults pay 50 per cent for all. Go only to Jungfraujoch if the weather is fine. Otherwise you would freeze in the fog and see nothing at all. The first train to Lucerne leaves Interlaken Ost at 7.04 and arrives at Lucerne at 9.04 (NOT 9.30), then every hour until 20.04. If you leave Lucerne at 8.06, you will arrive at Titlis at about 9.50. The Engelberg - Titlis leg costs 50 per cent or the full fare (with Swiss Pass and Half Fare card). The first train to Zurich airport leaves Lucerne at 4.55am (1 1/4 hrs yourney); then at 5.28, 6.10, 6.20, 6.35, 7.10, 7.20 ......... You can rent full ski equipment at Interlaken, Wengen, Grindelwald, Engelberg, etc. But I fear you will have just no time for skiing. Check the Swiss Half fare card. I suppose it would be more advantageous than the Swiss Pass (for just Geneva - Interlaken - Zurich airport, plus Interlaken - Jungfraujoch and back and Lucerne - Titlis and back. http://www.swisstravelsystem.ch/en/ | 1
Dear neckervd, Thanks a lot for your valuable suggestions. Really appreciate your help! Thanks for telling me about Lake Brienz/Lake Thun. I never knew about it. I went through a travel agent in Qatar who was giving a package for Swiss which covers Jungfrausjoch as well as giving a 5 day Swiss pass (not sure if its a flexi pass because i dont see a 5 days swiss pass). Thanks a lot for the ski feedback. If there is no time, thats fine. Seeing the snow itself would be a treat! Thanks again! | 2
