2 weeks: Prague->Germany->Amsterdam?

Country forums / Western Europe / Germany

Friends,

Wife and I are planning a trip to Europe in May that will feature Germany but we're considering bookending with Prague and Amsterdam. Are we biting off two much for only two weeks? We've traveled extensively (mainly in Asia) and have discovered three days is usually about right for one location so timewise it seems to work with an open-jaw air ticket working out way East to West:

Prague 3 days
German City 3 days
German City 3 days
German City 3 days
Amsterday 3 days

We've not yet determined where to go in Germany any suggestions there would be appreciated as well... we're not big into museums but enjoy most other tourist-type attractions.

Thanks in advance for kind replies

This is absolutely do-able if you choose your three German cities carefully, so as to minimise travel time between those cities. Might I suggest the following: Prague - Görlitz - Berlin - Lübeck - Amsterdam. That would give you an interesting range of German cities. Görlitz is less well known, but absolutely one of the most picture perfect towns in central Europe. Well worth a visit, but in truth not perhaps a stop to justify three days. So you could use one of those Görlitz days to make a day trip by train from Görlitz to Dresden and back. Alternatively you could go Prague - Dresden - Berlin - Lübeck - Amsterdam, and use a day in Dresden to make a day trip to Görlitz and back. Berlin needs no extra comment, surely. Lübeck I'd strongly commend - an utterly beautiful old Hansestadt.
Hope this helps.

The suggestions in #1 are sensible.

As an alternative how about Dresden - Munich - Heidelberg - Cologne - Amsterdam?

No, you`re not biting off two much at all. #1 & #2 are very knowing posters and give good advise. Me personally would prefer:

Prague 3 days
Regensburg 3 days (daytrip to Berching or Straubing?)
Bamberg 3 days (dig deep into German beer culture)
Wörlitz 3 days (daytrips to Wittenberg and Dessau?)
Amsterday 3 days

My suggestion for an interesting route is:

Berlin 3 days
Dresden - 3 days
Prague - 3 days (a must)
Vienna - 3 days (I would definitely skip Amsterdam for Vienna)
Munich - 3 days

Enjoy it!
