HI everyone,

I'm hoping some of you who are regular travelers can help me out. I just booked our flight for Greece from the US and it looks like we get to have a bonus layover in Zurich both going to and coming back. I'm pretty new to international travel so I am really winging it trying to decipher the boarding information.

It says that we depart:
Boston (BOS) - Zurich (ZRH) - Sun. 10.07.2011 21:40 BOS - 10:55 +1 ZRH
Zurich (ZRH) - Thessaloniki (SKG) - Mon. 11.07.2011 22:35 ZRH - 01:45 +1 SKG

My wife and I will arrive in Zurich Switzerland in September (1 day stay) and travel to Lucerne (1 day), Lauterbrunnen (1 day), Locarno (2 day) and continue to Venice, Italy (2 days), Rome (3 days) , Florence (2 days) and Milan (2 days) and return home. All travel is planned by train. Should I book train travel on line or wait until arrive at destinations.
Please comment on practicality of itinerary and recommended lodging, restaurants at each destination.
Very much appreciated.

Hello there! We will be in Zurich for a day or two and wondered how the shopping is. I am a graphic designer, therefore, I look for items that are more local, designerly(I don't mean "namebrand") and perhaps different than what I find at home in the U.S.
I was debating shopping there or waiting until I arrive into Barcelona which I know has some decent shopping.

Hi all,

We are a couple and are planing on traveling around Switzerland for about 10-14 days at the end of August.
We will be starting our trip in Basel and ending off in Lichtenstein.

1) We are considering hiring an aparment in Bernsee Oberland cantoon and doing day trips from our apartment for about 6 days and then hiring and apartment maybe in Central Switzerland cantoon for also 6 days.
Is this a good idea or is it best to move from a hostel to hostel everyday instead?

2)We would like to…

I had a few questions regarding train tickets in Switzerland.

I'm planning a three day trip to Switzerland in mid-July, 2011, and I will be based in Interlaken. And see the surrounding areas including Jungfrajouch.

Should I buy these tickets online before I reach Switzerland, OR should I buy them (along with the half price card) when I reach Interlaken. I'm also traveling from Interlaken to Venice, and am wondering if I should buy all these tickets before or buy them after I'm in Interlaken.

Hi,

I'm travelling to Switzerland in mid-May, and would like to pick up a Swiss Pay As You Go SIM card for my phone, which will mostly be used for data - looking up train timetables, opening times and addresses of attractions, etc.

Does anyone have any particular recommendations? I know Swisscom do an "unlimited" data SIM (NATEL Easy BeFree) at around 4 CHF per day, but I was hoping to spend less than that - I'm there for 8 days and don't really need "unlimited" data, just a bit.

Also, can I…

Hi there,

I am a first time traveller, planning to go to Switzerland & France (spending 1 week in each country). My question is whether I should take the eurail global youth pass or whether I should take a swiss pass & a france pass for a certain number of days. (benefit of switzerland pass is the scenic train rides that you get with it ie:choco. train)

It's the first time I'll ever be on train so I have no clue how the systems work, I've read up bits of information on the swisstravelsystem…

Hi, this is my first visit to Switzerland.

I'm staying in Lucerne for Days1 and 2 : would like to visit Mt Rigi and look around Lucerne

Days 4 and 5 in Murren, hoping to do an easy hike, visit Schilthorn.

I have one extra day and I'm not sure what to do with it.

If I stay an extra night in Lucerne, I would like to take the Bernina Express: from Lucerne, take the train to Lugano (via William Tell route), bus over to Tirano, then stop a couple of hours at Poschiavo (or another small…

Hi Thorn Treers...you all have been so helpful recently with figuring out some details of my upcoming trip to Zurich, so I thought I would come back with one last question.
We'd like to go out for a nice, romantic dinner on Saturday night in the city. We are sort of Foodies and would love to go to a restaurant that does fine dining, preferably contemporary swiss/continental cuisine, using local ingredients. It doesn't have to be super sceney/trendy, but we are in our 20s so we'd also prefer not…

Hi,

I still need more guidance on my itinerary for my trip to Switzerland this June.

Can I do Montreux and Geneva in a three quarter day? I think we will arrive in Montreux from Zurich by 1pm and then check in to the hotel for 2 nights. We will visit Chillon Castle 1st (also thinking of purchasing for my children the Drako Club membership as a little birthday surprise for them).

Do you think I should move on to Geneva or stay on at Montreux after that? Can do the boat ride?

The next day I…
