Switzerland

Does anyone know if a previous US visa overstay will be detected if I apply for a Swiss visa from my home country. I am a Non-EU with clean criminal record.

Anyone has any such experience?

Heading to Basel for a Friday night in October and wondering what kind of nightlife we can expect. We're two guys, aged 30 and 40, and looking for somewhere with a mid-30s kind of age group. More into bars where we can talk to locals as opposed to clubs, but somewhere that combines the two would be ideal!

Any tips appreciated!

I will be traveling from Fussen Germany to Interlaken on Oct 20, 2011. I will leave Interlaken for Bern on Oct 25. Then Bern to Rudesheim Germany on Oct 26.
Is a Swiss flexi pass valid for only travel within the borders of Switzerland? If so, do I buy a separate ticket to a city in Switzerland on the border, then use the flexi pass.
Does a Flexi Pass get me any discounts on the cable cars and private trains near Interlaken.

Would it be less expensive to buy regular tickets?

Before the details of our (first ever) trip to Switzerland gently fade leaving wonderful memories, I thought I'd post some details of our trip.

I am not going to rhapsodize about the jaw dropping beauty of the place and the friendliness of the people - thats been said enough, more and in infinitely better ways. This is just a quick summary of our itinerary (First 5 days in this section) and some trivia which hopefully someone will find useful.

Does anybody know when the ski season begins in Zermatt? The best info I can find is 'late November'.
I have 5 days at the end of November and would love to spend it somewhere snowy (as I am working right over Xmas).
If I visit at this time of year will it be completely over-run with skiers?
Also, I would probably set aside a few days to explore the city I fly into; would you recommend Zurich or Geneva?

I planned an itinerary for my October trip to the Swiss Alps and was wondering what you think about it:

3 days in Zermatt.
2-3 days in Murren
1 day hike from Murren to Grindelwald. spend the night in Grindelwald
1 day hike from grindelwald to Meiringen
2-3 days in Meiringen
1 day in Zurich. I have an early flight so I have to be in Zurich the day before.

We will be in Switzerland for 8 days, however will be in Lucerne for 2 days, rest 4 days in
Wengen and 2 days in Zermat and Chur respectively.
Little confusion between Mt.Pilatus or Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne for the first day, as we will be arriving to Lucerne by 11 am. Since we will be staying in Wengen for 4 days is it worth visiting Pilatus by skipping the Swiss Museum of Transport, any other suggestions ...

Greetings! I am planning a trip to Switzerland/France on short notice and I have a tentative itinerary about which I would like to solicit input from the group. My trip will be 25 Sep-6 Oct. I have read through several pages of posts and responses and I have some specific questions at this point.
