I have travelled from the south of France to Basel by day train, with a change in Lyon. Easyjet from Basel may be cheaper ( if booked well in advance) but it depends on whether you want ot get there asap, or take in the scenery along the way. I presume you can get a day train in the reverse direction as well, if you want to.

I have used the swiss train timetable, but actually find that the German one gives better information , even for Switzerland. eg: more variations on how to get from A to B, and using faster routes.

INcidently, I have had to book 4 different flights to the UK from Switz, over the last month. Each time, both Swiss AIr and BA have had cheaper options than Easyjet.
have fun.
