Hi, I'm looking at going to Zermatt this weekend but it looks like it will be cloudy and raining. Is it worth the trip? I have seen a lot of Switzerland but I just haven't been there yet. I am more interested in the scenery and views so if it would not be any good in this weather I would rather not go. I've looked at the webcam at http://www.zermatt.ch/ and it doesn't look so great. I have 2 and a half days for a getway. Any recommendations (or alternatives) would be greatly appreciated. I'm an Aussie but currently is Gstaad. Thanks
In Ticino, the weather would be much better.
For scenery and views, you could go
from Lugano to Miglieglia and by gondola to Monte Lema
from Locarno by cablecar, gondola and chairlift to Cardada - Cimetta
from Stresa by gondola to Monte Mottarone
The Engadin Valley woould most probably be fine too:
Bernina Diavolezza, Piz Corvatsch......

You have probably already decided, but when I checked the forecast, it didn't really look that bad. I guess my recommendation depends on whether you think you will have another such opportunity and whether you are interested in seeing the landscape in winter. If this is your only chance I would say you should go because the Matterhorn is pretty unique, iconic and special. Also, the forecasts change quite a bit and are not always terribly accurate. Finally, if you do go and it is cloudy in Zermatt, remember to check the webcam for the Gornergrat. Often if you go up there you get above the clouds in the valley and the views are fabulous.
