Trips from Geneva

Chateau de Chillon whilst impressive from the outside, is one of the most impressive castles inside that i have visited, if you are going to see it then I would say it is a must to visit the interior. A bit like yourself inside of castles not normally my thing but this one is superb. Montreux is also nice town to visit.

if you are not very short on time, i would visit the chateau de chillon, even if you decide to see it "only" from the outside. it is very impressive from the outside, and i also enjoyed visiting the inside of the castle. you might want to look at 2 webcams that show the outside of the castle and the first court: http://www.chillon.ch/de/multimedia/webcams/webcams-chillon.

travelling from geneva, its an hour on the train to montreux, and from there 15 minutes on a ship to the castle. look at www.sbb.ch for schedules of public transport in switzerland (which includes boating on the lakes).

At Mount Saleve, the sun rises in the East in early morning and to set down in the West (Northern hemisphere). At noon, it's rather high at the sky (in May). So, it's up to you to turn you in the right direction if you don't want to have the sun in your face. But be aware that many days may be cloudy, covered or even rainy, with no sun at all.

Chillon: very nice castle, but less impressive than Krak des Chevaliers or St. Hilarion. Most scenic approach: steamboat from Lausanne. Chillon has a train station too (and very frequent trolleybuses from Vevey - Montreux).

@ meckerdv: I do know where the sun rises and where it sets. What I don't know it's the orientation of the viewpoint at Mount Salève, and so, how to avoid the sun just in front in order to spoil the view from there. Thanks!
