I will be doing some trekking in Switzerland next summer and would like to know, what the rules are in this country concerning the use of tent. I'll mostly be following the Via Alpina. Does anyone know a homepage that clearly explains these rules? By the way, what time is the best for trekking in Switzerland?

This is a tricky question as there is no clear rule. If you manage some German, check this brochure
A summary: it's strictly forbidden in natural reserves and "Jagdbanngebieten" (where hunters are not allowed to hunt). In the other areas it's usually ok to camp for one night above the tree line (no large goups). Keep away from mountain huts, alpine farms etc. or ask the owner if it's ok to camp. And of course leave the place as it was before.
However, there is a dense network of alpine huts, be prepared that you may be the only one carrying a heavy backpack.
Best time is summer (June-September), be prepared that it may snow anytime to relatively low lever (below 2000m).
