I am visiting Italy in March/April and wanted a quick trip to Switerzland. I was considering Chiasso because it is right on the border. What train, if there is one, do I get from Chiasso to Venice? Is this even possible?

Also, is there anything to do in Chiasso? Any great hotels or B&B's?

Any info you can provide will be helpful!

Thanks,

There isnt much to see in Chiasso. Go to Lugano, its only 25km more from Chiasso.

Sure, it`s possible, but you must change trains in Milano.

As above..no reason to go to Chiasso.

Lugano is interesting enough...train from Venice(change in Milan)takes about 4 hours each way,so its a bit far for a day trip.

Things to do at Chiasso:
jump in the next Como citybus, ride up to Como Lago and change there to a Lake Como boat
day trip to Milano
train to any place along Lake Lugano, resp cog railway ride to Monte Generoso.
In late April, there are big fields of blooming wild white narcissus flowers at Cavazza/Monte Bisbino, just about 2-3 hrs on foot above Chiasso, along the panoramic hiking trail from Chiasso to San Fedele - Menaggio (2 day trip).

Chiasso - Venice: every hour from 5.16 until 20.11, 3 1/2 to 4 1/4 hrs, change at Milan, 38-45 EUR

Hotel Conca Bella has a fairly good restaurant (16 Gault Millau points) where a gourmet dinner (menu degustazione) for 100 EUR/130 USD (without wine) is served.
