I hope to be spending a few days in Switzerland last week in June and am taking the rail trip to Jungfraujoch. Ideally I would like to stay overnight if weather permits and wondered how easy was to hike to one of the mountain huts (eg Konkordia) and what I would need. I do not ski and just have regular low level hiking gear- is anything possible to walk to, in just regular hiking boots etc? The Konkordia site warns "* There are no signed or secured hiking to the Konkordia hut. All access routes are via glacier and require appropriate and equipment. " but I just wondered if anyone had had experience of simply walking to and from the hut in Summer and how difficult it would be for someone without experience or alpine gear?

many thanks

Bill

ps (added) on further research the Mönchsjoch hut might be more my level... any thoughts appreciated.

Forget about it. At this altitude and across a glacier, on your own, having to find your way without marked trails, there is no way of hiking with just plain hiking boots. This takes alpine experience and mountain-climbing gear, otherwise it is just foolish and outright dangerous.

Forget Konkordiaplatz without a mountain guide. As to Moenchshuette, you may have a look at

BTW: I suppose you know that there are dozens of mountain huts in the Wengen-Grindelwald-Muerren area which can be reached on safe and well signmarked mountain trails.

Thank you both for your replies- figured as much! My time is limited and I liked the idea of spending the night up there in particular. But this looks more my speed

Hike to Mönchsjoch Hut: The hike from Jungfraujoch to Mönchsjoch hut is approximately 1 hour. It is an amazing way to experience hiking in the Alps and crossing a glacier without ropes or a mountain guide. It is a specially prepared trail, though you must never leave the marked path and wear suitable clothing and footwear.
