HI all,

Apologies if this is addressed somewhere else.

I am awaitng a visa approval as an American applying to study in Switzerland.

Anyone else know if their long stay visa issued by the authorities typically incorporates the 90 day tourist period within it's validity?

If my program is a little over 4 months, I am wondering whether or not they will give me a little over 7 months to be within the country. Inclusive of the 90 day tourist allowance.

Also, to add a kink in this, i applied for an intended stay of 6 months...will i consequently have about 8 months within the country if 90 days is typically incorporated?

Thanks,

Have you been here? http://www.eda.admin.ch/eda/en/home/reps/nameri/vusa/ref_visinf/visusa.html
Given that you want to study and travel, I would give them a phone call to discuss your situation.

Your student visa, if approved, will be valid as long as the study period is, so if you are studying in Switzerland for four months, it will be valid for four months. If you apply for 6 months, then it is valid for 6 months. You will not have 8 or 9 months on a 6 month visa. The tourist allowance is not incorporated in the student visa. What you apply for is what you get.
