Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help me out with some information regarding the Alpine Pass Route in Switzerland.

I'm looking at hiking the entire route solo from mid July through till mid August. I don't mind roughing it at all but I'd prefer not to carry my camping gear for this trip, however I'm still very much on a budget. I have been reading and I'm thinking that huts along the may be the way to go.

I'm having trouble though finding a good listing of which huts I would find along the way. Has anyone done this hike, just staying in simple accommodation? Are there many huts along the way? Are these booked out during July/August? I've never hiked in Europe so the idea of these huts is different for me and sounds like a good option.

A few pages that I have read have said that I would need to pre-book accommodation in July/August. However, planning a full hike so far ahead could be difficult given changing weather conditions etc. I have never prebooked anything as some days you feel like a rest day and on other days the weather doesn't allow you to hike. If you did this hike, did you prebook?

Also, are there any books/maps/site would you recommend for the hike? I have the old Lonely Planet Walking in Switzerland but I'd like one a bit more detailed - I've seen a few online and I'm just deciding which would be best.

Thanks a lot everyone,

Hayley
