DOES THE RESTAURANT IN TRAINS SERVE EXPENSIVE FOOD?

I'm about 73% sure that an InterCity Express is a german train, so ignore the rest if it is not...

one of my guilty pleasures is food from German train stations.

i'm sure there probably are rules, legally or socially, about eating on trains, but i think so long as it's not anything too extravagant (i.e sandwiches, snacks etc etc) it is fine. I've never eaten from the "restaurant".

You can bring and consume as much food and drink on the train as you want - as long as you still behave (refererring to drink;-)) and don't stain the seats or your neighbour's clothes. I'd also be polite and avoid too smelly foods for the sake of the rest of the train.

The restaurant on the train is notably more expensive than similar food would be in restaurants on the ground.

You can consume your own food on the trains. The restaurants in the trains are good, but priced a little higher than average. Look out for specials or all inclusive menus.

So now I can safely pack something to eat in trains (travelling on ICE from interlaken OST to Basel is 2 hrs!).

Restaurants on the train are now much better than years ago but very expensive. Much better to bring some snacks
