Hi,

I am planning my honeymoon, in the month of december to switzerland. Would be travelling from India. As it would be a break after a very hectic wedding week, I would not like to do a lot local travel. May b 2 cities max. My ideal duration of stay would be 6 7 days.

I am not interested in skiing, please recommend the best romantic places that I can goto. Most tour packages include zurich, interlaken and lucerne, are they the best places or can go to others.

Please also suugest the best site seeing options and how should i travel locally and recommended hotels.

Regards,
Varun

There are more romantic places than St. Moritz, but St. Moritz got its advantages.
St. Moritz is known worldwide.

A hotel recommendation would be the Badrutt's Palace Hotel. It's the best.

The poster a_p will find this thread. He is usually online all over the day.

Happy honeymoon and greetings to India. :-)

It depends what is your definition of romantic.

Is it a big wellnes Hotel with all the luxury or is it a more simple place where you can make little walks and enjoy the cold and clear air. Hear the sizzling noise that your shoe make in the snow. Or just sitting in the sun an feel the warm. (For Indian maybe difficult to understand what is so nice about sitting in the sun. But you will soon when experience how cold is in the shadow).

St. Moritz is a little city with all the disadvantage. It has a lot of traffic and surrounded by very rich you feel poor when you are only rich. You will feel not so much of it as long your are in a Hotel with the big names like Kulm or Palace. But to be honest for that experience you don't need to travel around the half world. If you like the this part of the Engadine

If you like the this part of the Engadine I suggest more Pontresina that is a little more charming then St Moriz but still big enough to have all it needs and with some nice ***** Hotels.

A bit more traditional is Scuol in a other part of the Engadine. Also in a similar style is Bergün which spezial famous for sledge slide. You can rent the sledge there and it don't need years of learning like skiing. The last town in Graubünden I would like to mention is Vals . The town it self is not very beautiful but the Thermen a hot spring bath is nicest I know. So if stay in one of the towns I mentioned before it is easy to make a little detour on your way back to Zürich Airport.

My personal favourite is Albinen in the Valais a complete different part of Switzerland. The problem is if you want to make day trips you have to go every time down to the valley and come back before the last post bus and the other disadvantage is there are no luxury hotels. So it is a good place if you just want to have it nice and quiet. But you have still the possibility to make day trips to the spa of Leukerbad and to Zermatt to see the Matterhorn.

Sorry the more or less double post but did some wrong click.

check out www.sbb.ch for train shedules. switerland is quite small and very easy to travel around using local transport.

december is a very "uncertain" time in switzerland, weatherwise, it might be cold and covered in snow, but it might also be raining and grey.

as others pointed out varun, it depens what you think is romantic.
for myself (im a swiss woman), if i had a honeymoon in december in switzerland or in europe, i would probably stay for 2 or 3 nights in a mountain resort and the 2 or 3 other days in a place like paris.

Thanks for your inputs everyone....

My view of the romantic honeymoon (keeping my budget in mind :) ) will be a 3 or 4* hotel with nice scenic places around so i can walk around aimlessly with my beau. Also as am travelling from far away would light to do the regular sight seeing for few days. The ones that i have found on most of the itineraries are - rotair for titlis, Jungfrau, glacier 3000 etc.

To make things romantic have read about a horse carriage ride, a candle lit dinner, and do suggest if can do something similar that would be local speciality.

I am planning to get a swiss saver pass for travelling locally. Will do some reading on the recommended destinations, and come back to you all for more suggestions

Thanks
Varun

If you go to Zermatt, I can recommend you the a little new hotel Phoenix ***(http://phoenixzermatt.ch/).
But also Blatten in the Lötschental would be a very romantic place...as well as Belalp in december with a lot of snow and advent markets. Check out this hotel: http://www.hamiltonlodge.ch/
