...and don't miss Mund, the only Swiss village where genuine saffron is grown.
...and now combine the suggestions of Petite Arvine and a_p: hike from Hohtenn or Ausserberg to Niwaerch and from there along the famous Niwaerch Suon and through the Niwaerch Suon tunnel (with pocket lamp) to Ze Steinu, follow then the Gorperi Suon up to the bus stop Hohwang and continue on a nice small trail via Oberi Brich to Ferchen and Mund. (The trail would go on from there to Birgisch - Geimen - Blatten - Gragg - Riedera Suon - Ried.Moerel......)
Don't worry, Niwaerch (if you go through the tunnel and not along the rock face), Gorberi and Riedera are not dangerous at all. But I don't deny that some Bisse walks can be dangerous, for example the uppermost part of Grand Bisse de Lens, the Bisse du Sillonin or the upper part of Bisse d'Ayent

Thank you all again for your replies. I've been looking at Hikes and places to see in the Valais near Visp as per some of your suggestions, but I was also offered to stay at a colleagues cottage in zuoz, grabunden for free. I'm doing some research on that area, but I was wondering if anyone here thinks we'll be missing out on many things if we go with that option or if there are equally scenic hikes in that area as well in this time of the year.
Thanks

sheyda: C'mon, you can't do that to neckervd! After all, he spent so much time to explain almost every curve of the suone hikes in the Valais ;-)
Zuoz is in the Engadine, another Swiss hiker's paradise. It's pretty much different from the Valais, hundreds of kilometers of sign-posted hikes are to be found there, too. Famous "resorts" are here, the best known is St. Moritz. Zuoz is much smaller and further down the valley. It's not far from the one and only Swiss National Park which I highly recommend for hikes and animal watching. The average altitude of the Engadine is between 1'200 and 1'800 m, there are of course side valleys that go higher up. Just inquire before you start walking in order to avoid possible leftovers of snow.
Zuoz is already free of snow now. Check the round trip trail:
