thanks @neckervd,.. i know my question is a bit unreasonable :-)) i was relying on ur knowledge in this matter...since u made some valid observations abt Grimmelwald. I did see the site ( with lot of useful info). u know as a traveller u r only for a few days in Swiss and when someone knowledgeable gives u some infomation, u feel u made the best choice !! :-)

eg rick steeves writes grimmelwald is real swiss so as a tourist u tend to believe him, unless a real resident gives a different opinion !! thanks anyway..u have provided lot of useful links ...

@ OP - your question is not at all unreasonable. In fact, it makes perfect sense. You are looking for a quaint place which is off the main tourist track and offers good hiking opportunities. You might find the website below useful - it depicts hiking routes in Switzerland, from short trips of a couple of hours to a longer hikes.

A quaint village is Ringgenberg, close to Interlaken. There are some nice hikes from here and it is easily accesable by train and by bus.
