What do you mean with "like Gimmelwald"?
not easy to reach?
therefore a bad base for interesting daytrips to other parts of Switzerland?
not many hiking possibilities?
no sun from automn until spring?
place where one can do absolutely nothing if the weather is bad?

Thanx for ur comments...Well.. I was browsing Rick steeves site and he highly recommends Grimmelwald as a base for hiking and seeing 'real' Switzerland ! and so the question. I also felt that reaching that village looked a bit tough so was asking if there are other alternates to Grimmelwald. for someone wanting to be away from the big swiss cities ! and be able to do easy to moderate hiking in the countryside.

"for someone wanting to be away from the big swiss cities ! and be able to do easy to moderate hiking in the countryside."
Switzerland counts aobut 3000 villages. More than 1000 of them may match your requests. If you are looking for a place in the Alps, there are still several 100.
Have a look at http://www.myswitzerland.com/en/home.html and the many links you will find there
