Hello all,

I'm planning to stay 1 week in Lucerne (7 nights and 6 days), before heading to Lake Lake Maggiore where we'll stay for another week (travelling with a family, it is cheaper to rent a place for a full week). The idea is to both visit Lucerne and use it as a base for day trips (probably by car).

Is there enough to see and do in Lucern and around to justify staying there a full week? Or do we risk to have the impression that we're loosing our time there and had better spend some of our time in other places?

Thanks

The Lucerne area is in the center of Switzerland. If you want to visit only the places you can reach in 1 to 2 hrs (by car or public transport), you will be busy for several weeks. Some destinations (google for them):
Pilatus, Rigi, Kewenalp, Seelisberg, Stanserhorn, Engelberg-Titlis, Brienzer Rothorn, Natural Reserve Entlebuch, Lake Sarnen, Melchsee-Frutt, Swiss village Museum Ballenberg/Brienz, Lake Brienz, Aar Gorge and Reichenbach waterfalls, Gelmersee cablecar, Lake Brienz and Giessbach, Einsiedeln Monastery, Rapperswil SG, Lake Zurich, Andermatt-Gemsstock, Swiss National Museums at Schwyz, Seewen SO and Zurich, downtown Zurich, Basel, Solothurn, Bern, Affoltern im Emmental Cheese diary.........
