Hi Guys

Me my husband and daughter (13 months) will be travelling to Switzerland this June for our first trip there, we are visiting Cyprus first to see family and then flying in to Zurich from there

Here is our current itinerary as it stands

Day 1 - Arrive Zurich airport 10pm, sleep in Raddison Blu Airport hotel- Jet lag wont be a problem as flying in from Cyprus

Day 2 - Train to Lucerne- staying at the Des Balances hotel

Day 3 Lucerne

Day 4 Lucerne

Day 5 Lucerne

Day 6 Train to Wengen-Staying at the Baren hotel

Day 7 Wengen

Day 8 Wengen

Day 9 Wengen

Day 10 Goldenpass to Montreaux-La Rouvenaz B & B

Day 11 Montreux

Day 12 Train to Geneva

Day 13 Geneva

Day 14 3pm- flight Geneva back home to Melbourne :(

Ok so I've been thinking the last portion seems a bit rushed from Montreux onwards

after doing a bit more reading i don't think 2 nights will cut it in Montreaux

by the time we get on the train in Wengen and get to Montreux on the Goldenpass check in to hotel etc most of the day will be gone by that time we will only have the next day to check out Montreux and surrounds - Vevey, Lausanne,Gruyers etc

so i was thinking of re jigging this portion of the itinerary but not sure
which was would work best

I have a couple of options( keep things as they are now),OR tell me what u think

a. stay in Wengen 3 nights instead of 4 and add a extra night in Montreux from 2 to 3 nights

or

b. stay in Montreux for 3 nights instead of 2 and travel to Geneva on Day 13 instead of day 12

I really had my heart set on a visit to Annecy as i tLOOOOOVEE France and it looks sooooo beautiful

if i take option b obviously Annecy is OUT !!

I just can't decide!!!!!

hi vikkie
i'm totally frustrated, as i just wrote a long answer to your post, and my aged laptop then did "something funny" and its all gone ! i will try again, but my answer will probably be a bit shorter.

obvisouly you have to decide where to go and what to do, some inputs from me:
- keep it the way you have it planned, dont try to fit in too much, especially as you will travel with a young child
- zürich airport to lucerne is just a bit longer than an hour by train, which will give you almost 4 days there. do include 1-2 days trips, maybe to a mountain (rigi would be my favourite choice) and definitely spend some time on the lake.
- for schedules (train, boat, funiculars etc., look at www.sbb.ch)
- in lucerne, if your daugther like water, and the weather is good, you might want to spend a day in the lido http://www.lido-luzern.ch/english.php, a "beach" with a big park, and wonderful playground and pools.
- lucerne to wengen is almost 3 hours. personally, i would spend one or two days less in wengen and have more time in other places.

for safety reasons, i posted my first part of the reply :-)
lets go for the second part:

  • one night in montreux is enough. but if you want to visit vevey, gruyeres and lausanne on the way from montreux to geneva, you should definitely have more than one day. it is doable but you would have to rush and spend a lot of time (basically most of your day) travelling. i wouldnt want to do it, especially not with a young child.

If you absolutely want to go to Annecy, take a bus from Geneva (city and airport): 1 1/2 hrs ride.

If you are interested in the highest mountains of Western Europe, you may also travel from Montreux by train via Martigny - Chamonix Mont Blanc - St. Gervais - La Roche to Annecy.

If you stay in the Western part of Cyprus, you may also be interested in the direct Paphos - Basel flights, unless your LCA - ZRH flight is already included in your intercontinental ticket.

thank you , yes i am aware of day trips from lucerne, and will def visit one of the mountains, possibly bern etc
i def don't want the trip to be toooo crazy!
i feel most will be fine other than the last part in Montreux!!! thats why I'm considering changing this part of the trip but I'm just not sure if i should remove 1 day from wengen or not, and add it to montreux or just stick to my original plan and spend 4 days in wengen and just 2 in montreux which allows me to see (some) of the montreux area and still spending the 2 days in geneva where from there i can visit
annecy!! i won't be able to see the highest mountains as i have heard u shouldn't take a small child up there as they can have trouble breathing, so jungfrau is out!!!

There are tons of fine mountains lower than 3500m/11500ft. From almost half of this hight, you may have stupendous views to mountains and lakes. Check
Pilatus, Stanserhorn, Rigi, Alpen Tower, Brienzer Rothorn, Schynige Platte, First, Grosse Scheidegg, Kleine Scheidegg, Allmendhubel, Niederhorn, Sunnbuehl, Niesen, Betelberg, Eggli, La Videmanette, Berneuse, Rochers de Naye, Tracouet, Savoleyeres, Les Ruinettes, La Creusaz, La Flegere, Brevent, Charamillon-Col de Balme, Merde Glace.............

Hi there. I don't really know what you like so I will just make a recommendation based on my own thoughts. I would not cut back on Wengen for two reasons. First, Wengen is beautiful in itself, but I hope when you are there you will also explore the surrounding area, including trips to Kleine Scheidegg, Grindelwald, perhaps Muerren, Maennlichen, etc. There are great hikes to be taken and lifts to take you way up in the mountains even if you do not enjoy hiking. You need time to explore the fantastic mountains. Second, the weather is not so reliable in the mountains so one or more days may just be viewing washouts. You will still have things to do, but it is nice to have a cushion. So what would I do? I would cut back on the time in Lucerne. It is a very nice town but you have almost 4 full days there. I don't think it merits that given that you have obvious other desires. Hope this is helpful.
