I've noticed a lot of posting with recommendations where to stay in Barcelona, as we are going there later this year we are interested in any places fellow travelers suggest NOT to stay i.e. places that have not been a good experience for instance. I do not mean suburbs/areas not to stay I mean specific lodgings. thanks

This is not really a property review forum, but even so, it would help if you could specify the lodging type ... do you mean hostels, medium mid-range hotels (our target), or something more upscale?

In mid-September we're staying at the Aparthotel Silver in Gràcia for four nights ... we found it through good reviews relative to its price.

We can provide a lot of additional texture when you decide your overall shape.

I see it as a forum where travelers help each other - advising each other of places to avoid I would consider a major benefit to travelers - in regard to type of place I'd say hostels and medium priced places

There is something like this; it's called TripAdvisor or any reviews on the usual booking pages like Hotels.com or booking.com help as well. Most of the time if a hotel is that worse than it's probably not even bookable on one of this big international homepages...

Sometimes one single bad review as you would suggest might just be in the eyes of that single traveller...
...just have a look at the reviews on the booking pages I mentioned above...there are nice Hotels with 90 % good reviews and than there is the 10 % which were expecting something else (maybe they just didn't like the breakfast or
they had to wait too long for the elevator).

If you mean, what district, I'd say unless you plan to party all night or don't mind the noise from others, avoid Barceloneta. Ditto for the Barri Gotic below Carrer de Ferran.

It would be good to check out public transportation if you expect to use it. Barcelona's Metro system, while clean and efficient, is not extensive, but the bus routes are.

A rather strange question gcn ! I have seen you post on and off on this branch so you are an experienced traveller. Why look for places to avoid ? There are over 90% places that are recommendable, and since barcelona is full of accomodation (and our mayor tries to stop new hotels, bless her) option, why look for the few bad ones ? Surely you use booking.com and tripadvisor (the former more reliable as you need to have stayed).
