Some advice on itinerary please? We are flying in and out of Barcelona for our first trip to Spain. We have decided to spend 4 nights in Barcelona and then travel south to Seville. Our tenative plans are
2 nights Valencia
2 nights Granada
2 nights Malaga
2 nights Seville

Personally, I'm worried this is too much traveling. Valencia is on the list as the boyfriend would like to go, have paella, see the beach. I'm thinking we need to ax one of these cities off the list, and I'm thinking Malaga? We're from Los Angeles, and have great weather and great beach access at home. We're more interested in seeing different cultures in Spain with the trip from the north to Andalucia, different architecture, and just spending time walking around the sights. We like the city, but also love little towns and the country side. We're thinking of maybe adding a day to Granada or Seville to check out any possibilities for local mountain biking or even road biking. We'll be traveling by bus and train between these places. I'm guessing Malaga is pretty much a tourist beach resort? And I'm guessing we will have opportunities to see beautiful beaches near Barcelona and Valencia?

So - which city to eliminate? And where would you recommend adding on the days?

Thanks!

2 nights only gives you one whole day. All those places deserve more. Cut your list in half.

You'll get more out of your trip.

Mountain biking will take more of your time than one day. You 'd have to go to the starting pont and get very few hours actually biking.

As you say you live near beaches. 4 days could be one day too many for Barcelona.

Go learn something. Talk at legth with foreigners. Noot just comparing trips with other yanks.

i'd drop Valencia, its out of the way for the other places, it might be where Paella originates from, but you can get good Paella all over Spain.

To finish the rest of my answer, 2 days in each place including travelling is not enough, after Barcelona I would split your time with Seville and Granada.

On your comment on Malaga, no it is not just a touristy beach resort, it is a city with plenty of interest, yes it has beaches but they are not the reason to go to Malaga, unfortunately Malaga is thought of a another Costa del Sol resort but those who visit realize this is not the case.

Malaga is also birthplace of Piccaso. I never appreciated him till I saw his boyood home. He did line drawings in ceramics. OMG what a man can do with two simple lines!

Also the cathedral there is an art gallery. And a show of what can be done with creative lighting.

I would skip Málaga and add that time to Sevilla. I would also take the overnight train from Valencia to Granada.

I'm guessing Malaga is pretty much a tourist beach resort?

No it isn't but it's less interesting than Granada and Sevilla and the time you allocate for Sevilla is too short...

you can get good Paella all over Spain

I disagree.

P.S.: You have options for daytrips out of all the cities you quoted so if during your trip you think you've already visited/made all what you wanted to visit/make in a city and you have more time in that city, you could easily make a daytrip (e.g.: to a smaller town).
