Hi All;

Two of us are arriving in Barcelona on May 18, and are looking for a place to stay for 2 nights. Apparently, it is a busy weekend, however, (Grand Prix???) and we've not been able to find anything in the popular areas (La Ramblas, Gothic district etc).

Does anyone have recommendations for places, or even neighbourhoods, that might be less frequented by tourists, off the beaten track, but still within a reasonable walk or metro ride to where all the action is.

Price isn't a huge issue right now, since we can't find anything! Yikes!

Thanks!

Think the Grand Prix is actually the previous weekend, but I guess people might stay a little longer.

Have just checked Expedia for the dates you mentioned, and a few vacancies are coming up. Depends on how much you want to spend. Interesting that the Australian Expedia website has far more vacancies than the US one, although this doesn't help your situation.

My trip is 18-28 May in Spain and I have booked all the accomendations at www.hostelworld.com yesterday, www.hostel.com also carries some options. Take a looks there.

the areas less frequented by tourists will have less accomodation places. For instance, I love Gracia area, but there are very few hotels/hostales there.

Anyway, you don't need to be in Gotic/Las Ramblas to be closer to the main sights. Barcelona is compact and does have excellent public trasport, so you can stay in Eixample, El Born, Barceloneta... in fact these are IMO much better ares to stay than the overpriced, "overtouristed" and full of pickpockets Ramblas/Gotic.

I agree with Belsa

the metro is fantastic, so just look for any accommodation near a metro station.

Have you tried this place:

http://www.barcelonacitycentre.com/

I stayed there at the end of last month, great place great location only 5-10 min walk from las ramblas free tea and coffee satelite tv, staff very friendly and helpful to gave us free maps told us the best places to go and not to go. We paid about 180euros for 3 of us for 2 nights.

And remember a Hostal in Spain is not the same as what you might call a Hostel elsewhere in Europe.
