I am trying to find a way to buy ticket online to see a bullfighting on our upcoming trip to Spain in May. I understand that it takes place on Sunday evenings. We'll have two Sundays in Madrid: May 13 & 27. I found a couple websites that sell tickets online. One doesn't have the May schedule published yet. The other one does have the schedule from May through August, but they charge from US$225 (sun, high rows) to US$400 (shade, low rows). I suspect these prices have very high markup. Can anyone tell me what my chances are to get a ticket if we wait until we arrive in Madrid to buy the ticket? A search result from Google shows that there are several ticket agencies in the city, including El Corte Ingles with a phone number. Does anyone know if any El Cortes Ingles department store sell the ticket, or just a particular store? I don't speak Spanish fluently, so I hesitate to make a phone call. Thanks.

Hi, I am also puzzling the same question as you. My date is on May 20. Not able to verify yet but my travel book writes the tickets for selling is just available 4 days in advance before show date, and cost is around 20 Euro for the most basic seat. www.las-ventas.com sell tickets online, are you searching from this site?
No idea about the ticket agencies in the city, and much worse is that we know NONE of Spanish at all. Could anybody give us online/ offline method to get a ticket?
Thanks in advance!

Just so you know, the BIG Madrid Fería de San Isidro bullfight fesitval is taking place every day from May 10, 2007 to June 3, 2007 (and then there's another small festival daily from June 6-10, 2007). That's likely why the prices you've found are as high as they are because it's very difficult to get tickets to this, most of the seats are sold years in advance to annual ticket holders. Also try local broker Localidades Galicia and their affiliate @ http://www.bullfightticketsmadrid.com/</a> - English version too. View the San Isidro bullfight schedule here.
Best of luck. Saludos, MadridMan/GranadaMan

According to this, "tickets rarely sell out." I hope he is right. This web page also provides a link to this site, which does not have all the May bullfight dates yet. I wonder why that is the case, given that we are getting to the end of April. Madrid has a big bullfight festival in May, so the schedule should be out by now.

Thanks, MadridMan. The first site Localidades Galicia only has information on dates, and directs people to the bullfightticketsmadrid.com to buy the ticket. I went part of the way through the purchase process but didn't complete the transaction because I couldn't decide on the date. But it looks like there are still seats available.
Question: in the scehdule on the Galicia site, it has bullfight every day from 5/15 to 5/31. But the bullfightsticketsmadrid.com site is missing some dates such as 5/15, 19, 20, 22-28, etc. Why? Some are not sold to the public? Also, what are Novillada, corrida de toros, corrida de rejones listed uner TIPO? Do all the bullfights listed there take place at Las Ventas?
Love your site, MadridMan. I am using it to make hostal reservations. People like me really benefit from your good work. Keep it up.

Why do you want to see a bull taunted and slowly killed????
I just cant understand why people want to watch this horrific "sport"
#5: That is not the subject of this thread. Reading your blog, I see that you advise travelers to eat Gyros in Greece. Have you ever been to a slaughterhouse in Greece? Or even in your home town?

To #5, take your holier-than-thou attitude to some place else. I was simply asking a question and I don't need any lecturing. It's like for a vegetarian to respond to a question about a good steakhouse by saying "I don't understand why you guys want to eat meat. It's so cruel." Don't be judgemental!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did I ever say any of those things? No. I am just totally puzzled at why anyone would want to watch it. I wouldn't want to go watch a cow being killed in a slaughter house either.
hmmmm #6 I dont think I ever advised travellers to eat Gyros. We did though. Very cheap food. Good on a backpackers budget. Yes I eat meat. No I am not a vegetarian. When at home I opt for free range, organic animal produce to reduce the stress on the animal. So no... watching a bull slowly killed does not appeal to me. From what I understand the bullfights are now fueled by the tourist dollar, so I wonder why so many people still want to go watch something die.

Also, the links you've seen above which sell tickets are brokers so they buy large "lots" of tickets at commission-padded prices so yes, they do usually have tickets available. I wouldn't be surprised, however, that those fewer and fewer remaining seats, as you grow nearer to the event, that the prices would go up.

<hr>Also, what are Novillada, corrida de toros, corrida de rejones listed uner TIPO? <hr></blockquote>You can read all about bullfighting and the different types (including those about which you're asking) @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullfighting</a>. But in short, Novillada is a bullfight using younger bulls (less than 4 years old) bulls. Corrida de toros uses full-sized, adult bulls. Corrida de Rejones is LIKE a bullfight but the bullfighter (called "rejoneador") is on horseback.

The Las Ventas website (http://www.las-ventas.com</a>) is notoriously outdated, rarely carrying up-to-the month information except DURING the San Isidro festival.
Best of luck! Saludos, MadridMan/GranadaMan
