Hello all,

After the recent events in Istanbul, I am having to re-plan part of our summer holidays :(

So, I am hoping to take my family to Spain (south coast) toward the middle/end of August, but really struggling to decide on a destination. Travelling on the journey with me are my wife, 5 y/o daughter and 2/yo son.

The requirements are as follows:

A family friendly/easy-access sandy beach with calm waters nearby i.e. short walk or taxi journey. Having other beaches, up to about 30 minute drive would be a bonus!

Within reasonable distance to eateries (cafes, takeaways, restaurants, etc.), grocery store/s, shops, etc.

A locality which is not scattered with pubs/clubs/bars, etc.

Other attractions suited for families and small children within 30/60mins drive. Places such as parks/gardens, zoos, scenic tours, historical sites, etc. The attractions aren’t an absolute necessity if there are nice beaches in the locality but a few options would be nice.

We are flexible with the accommodation type, as long as it’s not an overcrowded/extremely busy hotel or resort. So a small resort, private hotel, apartment or holiday home/villa would be ideal.

Please can someone recommend a location that fits my criteria and as always, I’m open to other suggestions :)

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards :)

I don't want to be too negative but to get any decent accommodation you would have needed to book along time ago. Spain is full this summer because of lots of things. Probably best to look around Northern Spain, Llanes and Ribadesella could both fit the bill but no weather guaranteed and I expect even there too be busy.

I totally understand your point. I'll look into the places you have mentioned. Definitely a lesson learnt with summer holidays :)

Unless the FCO advises against Turkey why cancel, my friend has just come back from there and had no issues whatsover.
