Greeting All,

I'm a US citizen in the process of applying for a long term Spain visa and have a question...

In the application, you have to provide proof of a leasing agreement.

The application instructions:

http://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados/HOUSTON/es/Consulado/Documents/Visado%20de%20residencia%20no%20lucrativa%20EN.pdf

I don't understand how I can get a leasing agreement if I haven't been granted the visa beforehand. Essentially, in the way it's presented, I would have to get a landlord to agree to create a leasing agreement under the pretense that I might be given permission to stay for over three months and that I'll be leasing the apartment at least 2 months after I sing the lease agreement.

The issue of a down payment is also a factor (I would hate to put a few hundred Euro down and then not get my visa).

I emailed the consulate and their response was:

"... it is up to you to decide what you would like to do in order to get your leasing contract."

Does anyone have any experience with this part of the application? If so, how did you go about doing it correctly?

Also, so I can have somewhat of an idea what my chances are,...assuming a person meets the financial requirements (which I do) and fills out the application correctly, are the chances (historically) bad, good, or "it depends" that the person gets the visa?

If I wrote something that doesn't make sense, or clarification is needed, please let me know and I'll provide more info.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to help,

J

Funny but not so...I saw the thread on Living and working abroad and suggested the WE forum was more useful...even asked the Mods to move it. I did provide some info.

I checked out the site you linked in your post. Looks like all the info to get a lease agreement is on there.

Thanks for the help!
