Hi

We're planning to spend almost a week in Andalucia at the beginning of October. We don't want to use a car and like travelling by train (though will probably have to fly UK - Malaga to save time).

Does anyone have any suggestions about where would be the best place to stay for good rail links? Short bus trips also ok, but tend to avoid long ones due to travel sickness.

We like the idea of staying in or near Granada, as we want to visit the Alhambra and also because Granada sounds like the greenest area. A nice quiet, laid back, semi-rural location would be good, but I know that might be expecting too much by public transport!

Places we'd like to visit are the Alhambra, maybe a national park and perhaps Seville and/or the Mediterreanean. Most of all though, just want to relax and soak up the sun, landscape, food and culture...

Very grateful for any advice.

Claire

Hard to advise, as you near have your mind set on Granada (ish).

Thoughts.

Malaga (the city) has fine bus and train links. As does Antequera which is fairly central.
If you are going to stay 'in the sticks', public transport is unlikely to favour you, the tourist, as you fortunately recognise, so any day trips will have to be down accurately.
Granada to Seville is three hours each way by public transport.

It'll be easier to make suggestions about where to be placed once you know what places you want to visit. Maybe+, +perhaps+, +and/or show doubts and hesitation. It's not the same if you want to visit only Granada and nearby Sierra Nevada National Park than if you want to visit, let's say, Granada and Sevilla.

Don't stay in hostALS DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM THE STATION. pretty trashy crowds.
