Hello all!

My husband and I are going to be in Lloret de Mar for an estimated week for a friend's wedding, and were thinking of spending a day in Girona.

I have been trying to look for bus/train schedules out of Lloret online but have failed to find any viable website.
Ideally, we would like to spend the whole day in Girona (arriving around 9-10 a.m) and return to Lloret in the evening (as late as transport will allow.)

We would love to be able to see the Cathedral and at least one of the museums, be it the Museu d'Historia dels Jeus, Museu d'Historia de Girona, or the Museu d'Art...which one is the most highly recommended by whoever has visited?

Also, I would like to know if it's possible to rent a bicycle somewhere in town in order to get around, is that acceptable? Is it convenient?

One more thing...if we were to spend the night in Girona, is it worth it to go check out Sant Pere de Rodes? I was looking for information about entrance fees or tours, but on the website it doesn't state anything.

Thank you all so much for your time!

The bicycle would only be good along the river, the old part of town goes up pretty steep in some places, I found Girona perfectly walkable, but then I spend most of my time in the old part and walked along the city wall.

The walk from the bus station was 5 - 10 mins to the old part of town.

Thank you so much! I won't even bother with the bikes then :)
Did you visit any of the museums? What were your favorite attractions?

No, the one I would have gone into was closed on the day I was there.

I liked the city wall and the old quater and spend my time just strolling around sitting in cafes and watch the world go by, didn't do to much research before since I wasn't sure I was even going to Girona.

hi - Lloret does not have a train station, Blanes nearby (busses every 30 mins, company Pujol) does. Yet, this is not Renfe, the Spanish rail company, but Rodalies, the Catalan company. If you look up Rodalies Blanes Girona on google you ll find it easily. Had a quick look and it seems you need to switch trains, but it is not far at all so should not be any hassle.

That being said, have you looked into a direct bus ? Probably easier. At least one company (Sagales) is offering those, look up the schedule online. Many people fly in to Girona airport to go to the costa brava, I bet there is a good connection and these busses continue to Girona Centre.

Girona is perfectly walkable, no bikes needed unless you want to go to the further parts.
Not a museum person, so can´t comment on that.

About the monastery: I´ve seen it from the outside, it is pretty nice if you are into these things. You re probably googling in Spanish - time to brush up on your catalan for these things on the catalan coutryside :-)
Mind you, this is not close to Girona - probably at 1 1/2 h away:

Thank you both so much!
Last question (for now, lol) would it be enough to just go during the day and go back to Lloret in the nighttime? Or should we just plan to spend the night?

Girona is great but 1/2 to one full day will do. No need to spend the night, though obviously the dining and nightlife is more authentic than touristy Lloret !

If you like cycling there's a via verde between Girona and Sant Feliu (nice small town). It might be possible to incorporate a part of this gorgeous trail. (don't know about bus connection San Feliu - Lloret, cycling this bit is very challenging but outstanding!
Two days for that trip?
Local experts might have better ideas based on this idea, if the cycling is your thing. Llagostera - Girona for example?!

Thank you so much!! I actually got in contact with one of the companies that rent bikes over there and they told me a little about that via verde you mentioned. Depending on the time we have, I would love to do this!
The main reason I asked about biking was because I thought it might be a more efficient way to get from point a to point b in Girona, but I've been told that's not the case.
Thank you for the link!!
