Hi everyone, im a bit unsure about a few things.................ill be in spain (barcelona for a week and then madrid) from 20th dec to the 5th Jan this year and was wondering if it will be high season or low season then? (1)
Will I have to book hostels ahead of time? (2)
If i want to head out of madrid and stay a night in toledo can i get accomodation on the fly? (3)
Thanks in advance everyone.

Barcelona especially will be very busy over Xmas and New Years. Definately book in advance - I booked a trip there last Xmas at the last minute and must have looked though at least 100 cheapish hotels and hostels before finding somewhere I could afford.

Not really. It's not high season as such, cos it's cold and most Spanish people are at home with family at Xmas. But many places (esp restaurants) are closed around Xmas and New year too (esp the nights of 24 and 31 December). Apart from these times, it's very much low season, tho places like BCN which are popular for city breaks will be quite booked up, as 2 points out.

Thanks heaps guys, but what about areas like zaragoza and toledo? will they get booked up?
