Hi everybody,
I'll be in Andalucia in October and want to spend some time climbing in El Chorro, near Málaga. Has anybody been there and can tell me if they liked it? I'm especially interested in the routes and the gear you can rent there. Are there some easy routes, like 4s and 5s? Are there some top rope routes as my leading experince is very limited. :-/ Are there any recommendable shops where I can rent good ropes?

El chorro es un lugar con mucho encanto. Los últimos años ha habido algunas prohibiciones para escalar en algunas zonas y para circular tanto por las vías del tren como por el famoso caminito del Rey que recorre el desfiladero y que está en mal estado. En el pequeño pueblo del Chorro hay un refugio de escaladores donde te pueden informar de todo y seguramente alquilen material. También hay en el pueblo una tienda de escalada. El sector con las vías más fáciles se conoce como "los cotos" (IV y V). También hay un camping en el pueblo y un pequeño hotel. Existen vías de todas las difucultades pero no es muy buen sitio quizás para comenzar.

El Chorro y really beautiful but not many IV - V routes. I have a PDF with the climbing routes there that I can
send you if you send me your e-mail. It is not very accurate but can give you an idea.
A much easier place in Andalucia is Espiel in Cordoba Province. I bought the booklet with the topos in the refuge there.
