I will be travelling in Spain from 18 Dec to 4 Jan and would appreciate any advice from other travellers on best locations, hotels, hostals, etc to stay over the Christmas New Year period. I don't mind paying if the location is terrific, particularly if I have access to good food and wine.

As a starting point I thought Granada or Seville for Christmas and Barcelona for New Year. I'm not a skier and not a big fan of snow.

Thanks in advance.

One of my favorite days in Seville, is the day after Christmas. I can see all the Nartivity Scenes alone, in all+-the Medieval churches.
Some parts are quite antique. They set them up differently each year.

The days b4 that have long lines and I don't get decent gawking time or camera positions.

Christmas in Sevilla is a lot of fun - the Christmas market and nativity scenes. Pity you won't be there for the Three Kings parade - 5th of January.

taxis don´t operate, the day after Christmas. But its a walking town anyhow.

Carmen de la Verde Luna (or similar, can't remember the exact name) is an excellent restaurant (definite influence of Ferrán Adriá, as so often these days!) with good wine list and stunning view of the floodlit Alhambra from behind glass -it's well below freezing at night in Granada at this time of year, of course! It's on the Camino de S Nicolás in the Albayzín area. Certainly not cheap, but a good place for a great splash-out meal.

You will find it hard to find a place to eat on Christmas day so choose a hotel with a restaurant that is open. The same goes for new years day.

I would say Xmas Day is not a problem as much as the night of the 24th and also of the 31st. It'scetainly a time of year when you need to plan carefully in advance if you want to eat, or otherwise you'll be in the only place that's open, probably the very last place you'd choose to eat
