I'm curious, with Brexit, does that complicate residency permission for British subjects in Spain?

Are you subject to the three-month non-Schengen member rule like I am as a Canadian for example. If I want to stay any more than three months I need a visa to stay in a European country.

No Britain has not exited the EU as yet so until or if they ever do the things are the same as always. This is one of the numerous issues that will need to be sorted out if Britain does in fact ever leave EU.

#1 The UK is going to leave the EU, they do not follow the EU requirement to rerun referendums until voters give the 'correct' answer.

I reiterate UK has NOT left the EU, they have voted to leave but as at present they have not actually left EU. So at present (and until such time as UK actually leaves EU) everything remains the same. It may be a year or years before UK actually leaves EU because of legal / technical reasons, this has been well documented. One of the issues to be resolved is of course what OP posted - what will be the result regarding tourist and other visas for UK citizens in EU. At present UK citizens have same EU visa conditions as a year or 2 years ago; that was what OP asked.

I agree.

If British expats have to leave Spain, it would be a complete disaster for the economy of half of southern Spain. With a 31.5% unemployment rate, the economy of Andalusia already hangs on a thread.

While I for one would welcome this turn of events as I'd finally be able to afford property after the real estate market crashes, this is one thing that is simply never going to happen.

I haven't been to mainland Spain since 1971 (I've been to the Canaries 4 times) but it would still be a stretch for me to consider buying a winter place there, mostly due to the cost of flying from western Canada.

Mexico is closer and possibly as cheap but has more personal safety issues. (as in murdered Canadians every year)

We live in Spain and have the same dilemma - not sure if this will help but might be worth trying wherecani.live - if you've got any alternative routes to staying in the EU after Brexit (should it be a hard Brexit) then it should be able to tell you. Good luck!
