What's going on with the weather in this city? After a decade of summers in London we escaped to Sydney for two years just to go through the worst two summers in the history of the place, rainy and cloudy, we came to Barcelona because we were told it was the one place we were guaranteed we would have the first proper summer in 13 years and it's full of clouds almost every day. Is this normal? What's up?

It's all relative, were you here back in Spring when we didn't have rain for weeks and weeks across almost the whole of W Europe?

Not just in Barcelona.
The whole of Europe is having a (to say the least) different summer - climatically.
For the 3rd year on the trot - the so called UK weather experts, along with all their multi-million£ new labs, centres etc., have been so convincingly confident that 'This' year was the summer of the scorcher.... have got it wrong again.
It's barely breaking into the 20s on more than 2-3 days in a row. More rain than average and more to come - we all suspect.
Eastern/Western Europe is experiencing more than the usual amount of rain - and thunderstorms are regular too.
As for singling out Barcelona, it'll be much the same there too, I suspect.

...except for this part of Andalucía where we have not seen rain since the beginning of June and we have had (mostly) cloudless skies and beautiful warm weather since then. In other words, quite typical as far as summers go. Said he smugly ;-))

Are you not getting the thunderstorms down there?

OP, maybe you should go on holiday to the Horn of Africa? I hear they need rain there and you would be making a fine humanitarian gesture.

@battybilly. I think we had one in the afternoon in June. Since then, nothing by way of storms. In fact, we were saying the other evening that after an unusually showery late-May and early-June the weather has been wonderful. And it has.

We had one mini-heatwave in mid-June when, for a couple of days, the max temps got to around 37º. But since then, the max temps have hovered around 32º - 33º which is very comfortable in the dry mountain air.

This is not me just being smug, honest. It is just the way it has been this summer.

Lucky you.
No such luck in The UK.... As usual - again.

The part of Tuscany where I am had its first two full days of rain since May this week but the sun is back out this morning and temps are rising again. If anything it has been too hot here with locals praying for rain.
