Hello
We're going to Barcelona in August and have heard good stuff about the Gracia area and we'd like to find a reasonably priced hostel or pension there. Any suggestions?
Other suggestions are also welcome! The cheepies we've been able to locate so far are all around las Ramblas and we've been told it's too many people like us (tourists) there. We're not much for upmarket places, but this time dorm is out of the question cause it's our honey moon (-:
Cheers
Emma and Ben

As far as I'm aware, there's only ONE hostel (called "hostal" in Spain/Spanish - small, budget hotels) or pension (called, coincidentally, "pensión" in Spain/Spanish) in the Gracia neighborhood. It's called Hostal San Medín (web: http://www.sanmedin.com/</a>) and is located on the Carrer Gran de Gràcia and very conveniently immediately next to the Fontana metro station. They have a double rooms with bathroom for 65€/night. Also take a look at http://www.qdq.com/indexfotos.asp</a> to see a photo, or photos of the building's address and take a photographic virtual stroll around the neighborhood. The (4) photos of the facade of this building looks nice enough, lots of balconies.
Gràcia is quite nice. You'll like it. Much slower-paced, fewer tourists, more peaceful - although at night it really picks up but nothing on the scale of clubs around the Gothic Quarter.
Happy Honeymoon!! Saludos, MadridMan/GranadaMan

Oops. Sorry. The aforementioned Hostal San Medín's website does not mention having Air Conditioning - THIS is something YOU'LL REALLY WANT IN AUGUST in Barcelona. You might email them to ask directly if, maybe, it has been installed since the last update to their website. They do have fans, however.

Hi
Congratulations! Try the Silver Aparthotel - http://www.hotelsilver.com. You have a kitchenette and airconditioning.
I agree Gracia is a good area to be in. Not many places for visitors to stay there, though, as far as I remember. Also you could look in the Eixample area. This is the area between Plaza Catalunya and Gracia. Generally upscale when it comes to hotels, but you might find something. Also look in the Born area around Santa Maria del Mar and Carrer Montcada/Princessa. This is near the Barrio Gotico and has it's own flavor.
Good luck.
