Hi All,

I'm hoping some of you can give me some advice and suggestions. Ill be in Barcelona for 2 nights with my GF before heading to Vienna.

I know 2 days isn't enough to explore this beautiful city, but since we only have have limited time what must do/see things while in town?

Also if few of you can recommend few plays to stay as well that will be great.

Hope to hear back. :)

Thanks again!

When asking for advice on places to stay in might be helpful to include your budget/interests? If money is no issue, there are the super luxury hotels in Barcelona like in other big city. Are you looking for a hostel dorm, or a private room but still cheap, or are you splashing out on somewhere mid range so it is nice and private but not super multi star luxury?

Also, what are your interests? Barcelona has enough to keep most people occupied for months - I would need to stay there for years to see it all - and whatever your interests there is something for you.

My main advice - don't try to pack too much into two days. Barcelona is a beautiful city and aimless wandering and exploring, people watching and browsing around are all part of it. In two days, I would stick to perhaps one major attraction and a lesser one or two, or two main attractions maximum.

If you don't mind guided tours, the open topped bus tours are great for getting a first time orientation of the city and you can buy 24 or 48 hour tickets. There are three routes, hop on hop off, and cover most attractions. That can be slow though, and you can also buy metro and bus cards for local travel (the metro system is not difficult to navigate at all).

The really big tourist attractions include the Gaudi buildings, Camp Nou, Picasso gallery, Miro gallery, the Gothic Cathedral and parc Guell. There are numerous musuems and galleries, beaches, parks, lots of really interesting streets to explore, great architecture, lots of history, and lots of nightlife. I would say avoid the Spanish village. It is costly to get in, then there is loadsd of overpriced souvenir shops, bars and restaurants.

Yes, Boomer, tell us some of your interests and we might be able to help.

To clarify #1 above: the "open topped bus tours" are the Bus Turistic that you can see on the Barcelona City website. It is not a guided tour, that is, there is no guide. The buses cover two different routes that hit all the major attractions. You get on and off where you want and go at your own pace. In that sense it is a self-guided tour. I think it is good for getting an overview of the city. If you only have two days (assuming 2 full days), I wouldn't spend anymore than a half day on the Bus Turistic. Spend the rest of the time exploring and visiting some of the places that we are going to suggest after you tell us what you are interested in. There is plenty of general info on the web and in guidebooks, but we can help with specific info or suggestions.

Amazing city. I was last year for 3 days and nights and I really wanted to stay more time.

My favorites were:
The Ramblas and sorroundings, the Gothic Town and sorroundings, Paseig de Gracia, Sagrada Familia (but just to see from outside).

Other nice places:
La ribera quarter, Barceloneta beach (if the climate conditions allow), Montjuic.

I didnt visit Parc Guell but many people recomend that.

I didnt went to museums in Barcelona so I cant recomend you about that.

Bye...

Hi All,

Thanks for infor guys.

Ok.. accomodation Don't need anything that luxury. Something mid range. About 50-80 Euros is the budget per night. Is that enough or should I budget more?

Looks like the open bust tour is the way to go. If we see anything we like we can just hop off and explore and hop on the next bus.

Also what are good night places to hang out. Maybe for a drink (night club) or should we stay away from these kinds places.

Thanks

I stayed at the Condestable hotel...which I found on www.venere.com. That was about 60 euro two years ago. Good clean hotel. Next to Las Rambles.

Good Night Places to hang out in? I don't know about night clubs, but the street scene is nice because you can just watch the world go by. Rambla Catalunya (not to be confused with "Las Ramblas") isn't bad; has a number of bars, restaurants, cinemas, etc. Wander around the Gracia area for the same on a more "Bohemian" slant. The Barri Gotic is also nice to wander around. Do the bars "El Ascensor" and "El Paraiguas" still exist? Good times, good times. Most often the best times are depending on the people you are with. Also check out Quatre Gats for some history and atmosphere. El Meson de Cafe on Baixada de la Llibreteria for "the best cortado in town.
