andalucia or ?????

What time of the year are you planning on going? Where are you planning on flying in and out of?

To add to Badger's questions what method of transport are you planning to use?

All very important questions, to which I'll add "Coast or inland?" By the way. although some very attractive parts of Andalucia get very little (non-Spanish) tourism, there are many places that are very firmly on the tourist trail: for example, Granada, Cordoba, Seville, the Costa del Sol...and so on.

in truth, we have not planned anything of yet, so we are completely flexible on all questions, except the time of visit: dec 17 -- jan 2.

any thoughts, ideas and/or recommneds on coastal and inland routes, esp those that avoid major tourist areas, would be greatly appreciated.

OP I don't know much about Spain at that time of the year apart from one New Years in Madrid but I'd have thought that there wouldn't be anywhere in Spain and particularly on the coasts that could be called "major tourist areas" between 17 December and 2 January.

You do realise that your chance of "good weather" (however you define that) at that time of the year will be pretty slim don't you?

... the one Spanish territory which will be busy and have a good chance of good weather is the Canary Islands.

Good weather anywhere in mainland Spain will be largely confined to Southern Spain (inc. Andalucia) and even in Southern Spain it will be a question of luck. You could get mild weather or several days of continuous rain and/or drizzle. Both are possible.
