Hi,

sorry if this question has been asked a hundred times before (but the search function is not working).

We have a 3 day stopover in Madrid and we are looking for a quiet Hostal in Centro area. Prices should be max. 80 Euros. The Hostal Persal or Hostal Aresol sounds nice, how noisy are they… anybody stayed there?

Thanks

I've stayed at Hostal Aresol (on a newly created pedestrian boulevard) near the Puerta del Sol) and have toured Hostal Persal (next to the Plaza Santa Ana).

Both are located near busy areas of old Madrid. Hostal Aresol was pretty quiet for me. It's on the the 'spanish' 3rd floor (which is the 4th floor for North Americans) and had a simple street view. This is a typical hostel (called "hostal" in Spanish - and not to be confused with a YOUTH hostel which is called "albergue juvenil" in Spain/Spanish) in Spain with street entry to the reception room upstairs. I slept quite well and don't remember it being noisy. It's probably be less busy now that there are fewer cars in the area due to the pedestrianization of the main street next to the building. No mention of air conditioning here if you're going in the summertime.

Hostal Persal seemed more like a 1-star hotel to me than a hostel. This place has a large, hotel-like lobby and two dining rooms, elevators, and simple bedrooms. There's the large, Plaza Santa Ana a stone's throw away which is filled with tapas bars and terraces in the nicer weather. Persal is quite a bit more expensive than Hostal Aresol - could exceed your limit depending on season. In summer, A/C is needed and Hostal Persal has it.

If you have any other specific questions about these two or others we'll be happy to help!

great site madridmancom

Guess we need heating, as we travel from 03/23. Many hostales seemed to be full on friday and saturday… sunday is no problem. What's going on in Madrid?. How about the Hostal Oriente (Opera) at calle de Arenal, this hostal has some vacancies?

Kurzschluss, my events calendar doesn't suggest there are any big events or fairs going on on or just after March 23. April 1 starts Holy Week, however. Friday and Saturday are the two nights Hostels and hotels are busiest so it could simply be the day of the week and not some special event making your search more difficult.

All establishments have heating so don't worry about that. If you need an extra blanket I'm sure they'd accommodate you.

Say, do you have a website link for Hostal Oriente? The one I had no longer works. Calle Arenal is now a pedestrian street (nearly) from the Opera house to the Puerta del Sol and this is quite nice. The location is very good. I don't recall reading any reviews about this hostel, however. If the search function is now working on TTT you could try searching for past reviews.

If you have other questions, just ask. I've toured a number of hostels in Madrid and stayed at a few of them. Enjoy your trip!
