I didn't realize that. Certainly makes things easier. I just started researching the trip and really don't know much about Spain. Should we rent a car? Is it difficult to drive around?
When I've traveled with my two very young children, we rented apartments or agritourism houses, which are usually located in villages for which you'd also need to rent a car. Many of these village places are rented by the week, and you get a lot more space (both indoors and out) and privacy, and then you are in the countryside to see more of what Catalonia has to offer. This changes the vacation from principally visiting a city to visiting a region in which you can also visit the city.
There are also apartment options in the city, and I am sure you can find those listings in Air B&B.
